Alice Sturgeon Title: Senior Director, Accessibility, Identity Management, Security

Alice Sturgeon manages the area that is accountable for two new Government of Canada programs: Accessibility and Identity Management. As well she manages the GC Security Program and Security Policy. Over the past several months, Alice has also been involved in the Government’s initiative on Avian and Pandemic Influenza Planning and Business Continuity Management. Ms. Sturgeon previously was in the Enterprise Architecture and Standards Division of CIOB/TBS, as senior director in the domains of privacy, security and accessibility. In both capacities, Ms. Sturgeon has been responsible for design and development of frameworks for leadership and coordination in emerging areas, notably as Accessibility and Identity Management. The frameworks encompass policy instruments – policy, standards, guidelines and tools – and leverage the power and applicability of technologies such as biometrics, smart tokens, public key encryption, and emphasize common and shared systems. Ms. Sturgeon spent 19 years in the Government of Canada, the first twelve at the Communications Security Establishment in a variety of intelligence and security positions, and then seven years at the Treasury Board of Canada, Secretariat, in the field of Government Security Policy and Standards. From 1998 to 2004, Ms. Sturgeon was the chief policy and security officer at SPYRUS, Inc., a cryptographic product and service company headquartered in San Jose, California. Ms. Sturgeon participates extensively in international standardization in the fields of information technology security, biometrics, smart tokens, accessibility, and security in general; from this, she promotes the re-use and adaptation of international standards for consistency, international competitiveness and compatibility. Ms. Sturgeon has a Masters degree in International Politics and Economics from Carleton University in Ottawa Canada, where she currently lives and works. Contact Information: |
